  • update

Well, I'll not be outdone.  I'll leave an update too   The Lanier family is currently in FL while Joseph finishes up the tail end of his 6 week training.  We head back home to ME this weekend.  I'm easing into school with Millie, mostly just Bible memory, reading, writing and math.  She's really enjoying it, and so am I -- just wishing that I could find s  omething "constructive" for the boys to do while I work with her!  They like to be involved   Any ideas????  Baby Annie is getting so big.  At 9weeks she is a real go-getter -- already she can get her head and shoulders up out of her car seat.  It's so funny to watch her little head bobble around in the seat!  Take care, y'all.  It's been good to hear from you!

  • Hey, Y'all!

How has everyone been????????  Here's a little update for you.  We are moving to New Hampshire!  Joseph is going to a boat out there.  A lot more details could be given, but I'll spare you a lengthy post, and just answer any questions you might ask   We will be moving sometime this Summer, though with the baby coming mid June, we are not exactly sure when we will move (i.e. before or after baby is born.)  Please pray for wisdom!

    A few pictures:

A light dusting of snow early AM.  We weren't sure how long it would last, so the kids went out in PJ's!

Edit:  A friend just emailed this to me.  I find it fitting for myself, and thought you all might be blessed by it as well.
We shall be sure to find something to annoy us!

(John MacDuff, "The Christian's Pathway" 1858)

"But godliness with contentment is great gain."
        1 Timothy 6:6

The believer is frequently exhorted to cultivate
contentment, and there are many considerations
by which the duty may be enforced.

One thing is very evident--that there is no condition
in the present world, which is free from trouble!
    Let
us pitch our tent wherever we may--we shall be
sure to find something to annoy us!
    And if there
is no situation without some inconvenience--had we
not better make up our minds to be satisfied with
that condition in which we are now placed?

We are too much in the habit of judging by outward
    appearances.
But things are often very different in
    reality
--to what they appear to be.

If we judge according to appearance, we shall be led to
regard the most prosperous--as the happiest individuals.
But we are assured by universal experience--that to be
great is one thing, and that to be truly happy is altogether
another thing! Under the glittering robes of the proudest
nobilities--there are hearts pierced with anguish, and
wrung with grief! In splendid palaces--there are many
broken hearts to be found. To sit upon thrones may
seem to be something very fascinating; but, "uneasy lies
the head--which wears a crown!" This is a truth which
receives fresh confirmation, from every passing year.

Let us not then, regard those who occupy the high places
of the earth, with feelings of envy. Instead of envying them
--it befits us rather to pity them and pray for them!

    Reader, learn to distinguish between things that differ;
and be well assured that things as they appear outwardly,
and as they really are--do often differ, and that very
substantially! Such knowledge will tend, under God's
blessing--to make you more contented with your
    present lot,
    notwithstanding its trials and privations.

It is not unusual--to be exposed to things which are
grievous and hard to be borne. This is not some strange
thing which is happening to us alone. Let us lay aside,
therefore, all murmurings and complainings--and ever
remember that God's arrangements are the wisest
    and the best!

  • Tis the Christmas Season!

Enjoy it, y'all!   Hope you are being blessed with sweet meditations of the Incarnate Christ whose first taste of life as a man on earth was in a stable filled with animals and all their trappings.  Not much changed for Him as he transitioned from there to His work with mankind.  The smell probably wasn't too different!  We tend to carry about an odor that is not pleasant.  Attitudes, actions, thoughts that are not very sweet smelling.  May we take full advantage of His coming, and through His strength and grace make our lives a sweet odor filled with His fragrance.

  • AAAACCCKKKKK!

This is a bad time of the year to be pregnant!!!!!!!!!!  Will someone please remove far from me the ever-present apple pie, pumpkin pie, butter laden potatoes etc. ad. infinitum!  Help!  Today is the second thanksgiving meal I've had this year.  We are having an abbreviated meal with just our family because Joseph had to work today (bummer) but still, the temptation was too great.  I used a whole stick of butter in the stuffing.  And I'm afraid I just might do the same in the mashed 'taters.  Ok, maybe not a WHOLE stick, but a sight good part of it!  We just got back from NC where we had our "official" meal with extended family, and they looooooooove butter and desserts!  (boy, was it good.  now I'm wearing it )  Sigh.  If this is torture, bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Update

Well, I've been given the update chant, so I guess I'd better follow through.  How's this for an update:

We're going to have another baby!

There.  Is that satisfactory to everyone   Been a bit sleepy lately, so my computer time during the kids naptime has turned into my own naptime.  Sorry, Amber.  Didn't mean to steal your thunder.  I seem to have a history of that.  Stole my Sister-in-law's thunder with both of her kids too.   Baby is due in mid-June!

    Here's a funny for you.
October 29, 2008 – Last night, we had built a fire in our fire pit.  We roasted marshmallows and hotdogs, and Millie kept asking if she could “burn another marshmallow."  I told her that you don’t burn them, you roast them.

Driving to a friend's house today, we saw a burnt out house.  I pointed it out to Millie.  She said that she wanted to see a house with fire in it, and I told her that you don’t burn down houses on purpose!  So, she asked, “you don’t burn them?  You roast them?”

    Another funny:
While writing this post, Sammy came in to fuss at me and tell me it was time for a bottle.  Our little Jack Russell follows him everywhere -- Spud likes to lick Sammy's face (must be something with his breath that attracts him. I always tell dog to stop, and he stops for a bit, but always goes back for more)  Sammy has gotten so used to it that he laughs instead of getting frustrated. But I've never seen him do this before:  Dog goes up to lick baby's face.  Baby leans toward dog and opens mouth for dog to lick. EWWWW!  Maybe Sam is returning Spud's "kiss"  Dogs are so gross!

    Edit:  Nov. 4
Because not everyone has seen this last post, I'm going to add this little tidbit here, and maybe post it again later.  Excellent song in light of this election day.  I don't know the melody, but a friend suggested that it be sung to the tune of "Lead on, O King Eternal"
    O Father, You are sovereign
    In all the worlds You made;
    Your mighty Word was spoken,
    And light and life obeyed.
    Your voice commands the seasons
    And bounds the ocean’s shore,
    Sets stars within their courses
    And stills the tempests’ roar.

    O Father, You are sovereign
    In all affairs of man;
No powers of death or darkness
    Can thwart Your perfect plan.
    All chance and change transcending,
    Supreme in time and space,
    You hold your trusting children
    Secure in Your embrace.

    O Father, You are sovereign
    The Lord of human pain,
    Transmuting earthly sorrows
    To gold of heavenly gain,
    All evil overruling,
    As none but Conqueror could,
    Your love pursues its purpose—
    Our souls’ eternal good.

    O Father, You are sovereign!
    We see You dimly now,
    But soon before Your triumph
    Earth’s every knee shall bow.
With this glad hope before us
    Our faith springs forth anew:
    Our Sovereign Lord and Savior,
    We trust and worship You!

I was surprised to see you on here, until the thought came to me that Mom had probably set you up! It is great to hear from you! If Ben and Jen don't mind, it would be FABULOUS if you could post pictures of your little munchkins. I sure was disappointed that we could not make the trip out there.

HI! Michelle and family. This is so much fun!!! Your Mom put me on to this web site after she told me about Ethan's picture. We had two days of fellowship with Luis Soberanes and his family. As you can imagine, the children have really grown. Caleb turned 11 on Sunday, Abidan will be 8 in
